What is your company’s elevator pitch?

KiddieNotes is a software system that streamlines childcare centers’ workflow, freeing up more time for the children while giving centers the distinctive advantage of communicating updates to parents throughout the day.

What inspired you to start your business?

My daughter’s daycare used to record children’s daily sheets on carbon copy forms. One day they had run out of carbon copies and they were recording details on regular sheets of paper. They said that if I wanted a copy I’d have to ask the front desk for one. That triggered me to think, “Why even use paper? Why not push this information online, creating paperless daily sheets?”

Who are your clients?  Give an example of how you served that person or business?

Our primary clients are childcare centers. Our tools help our clients by making daily reporting easier and more efficient. It simplifies the check-in and check-out process, gives administrators a birds eye view of their classrooms, makes children’s profile and allergy information easily accessible to teachers, and gives parents private, secure access to their child’s status, including pictures and videos.

What is your biggest business challenge?

Our biggest challenge is getting potential customers to adopt and appreciate the capabilities of new technology.  Daycare centers have been using paper for daily sheets, attendance records, profile information, etc. for years.   We enable them go paperless, but that requires changes in processes and development of trust.  We try to show them that not only does KiddieNotes allow teachers to create paperless daily reports quickly and easily, but it also adds a tremendous amount of value by providing parents with insight throughout the day on their child’s activities. And on top of that, it simplifies center management for administrators and acts as a powerful marketing tool to increase enrollments.

Who are your Mentors, and how they have helped you in your business?

Our SCORE mentors, Peg Corwin and Mitch Morris, have been instrumental in the success we’ve experienced so far. Since KiddieNotes was just a seedling of an idea, they’ve assisted in everything from creating our business plan, to fund raising, sales, and marketing strategies.

What advice would you give other entrepreneurs?
