Ying Stoller is a cooking instructor and cookbook author who has been teaching Asian cooking for over a decade.
Her culinary talent led her to develop eight different flavors of cooking sauces which, beginning in 2008 after being encouraged to do so by her students, she bottled and sold under the brand name of “Ying’s”. Ying’s sauces became so popular that by 2010 she was selling her product through grocery store chains in 80 stores.
Realizing that she needed sound business advice in maintaining and expanding her business, in February 2011 Ying came to SCORE and was counseled by Phil Hartung, Norm Letofsky and Lee Brown. Those counselors worked with Ying on the management of in-store demonstrations, customer relations, quality control, advertising, on-going sales, promotional opportunities, and establishing cash flow objectives. The focus was on both short and long range planning with the purpose of maintaining and accelerating growth.
In the short time that Ying has been consulting with SCORE, her business (which she conducts under the name “Ying’s Kitchen”) has grown to the point where she now sells her product in 134 stores. Phil, Norm and Lee continue to mentor Ying, who continues to depend on their advice. As Ying said: “We continue growing in revenue and number of stores. With this growth, we want to make sure we are on the right track and that’s why we came to Score. The Score counselors are our sounding board. They keep us on track and give us helpful advice. We appreciate their willingness to help and always be there for us, whether by phone, email or in person.”
