Meet TRACY CARTER, owner of the PURSE SCOOPER and Featured Business Owner at SCORE Chicago this week. Learn how she started, and what tips she has for your success.
What is your company’s elevator pitch?
The PURSE SCOOPER is a strong, aluminum purse holder that easily hooks onto the head rest posts of the seats in your car. It ends the dilemma of your purse, briefcase or backpack flying off the passenger seat, spilling its contents and putting it out of reach.
What inspired you to start your business?
I was sitting at a fast-food window, unable to locate my purse because it had tumbled over onto the floor of my car. I couldn’t find my wallet to pay for my food, I knew I had a problem. I wanted to create a product that will provide a service for everyday convenience.
Who are your clients, and give an example of how you served that person or business?
Women, men and children will find the Purse Scooper useful to keep items in easy reach. SCORE counselor Marge Malo even ordered several for Christmas gifts.
What is your biggest business challenge?
My marketing strategy is the biggest business challenge.
I am currently working on getting the Purse Scooper distributed through the QVC network. I am going to be featured in the QVC “Sprouts” program 12/22/12 – 1/5/13. New products are featured on the website http://www.qvc.com/QVCSprouts.content.html during this time and viewers are asked to vote for which product they want to see made available for sale. If you are reading this, I hope you will help me out and vote to see the Purse Scooper made available through the QVC network! Thank you!
What are your SCORE Mentors’ names and how they have helped you in your business?
Marge Malo is my Mentor. Marge walked me through the process of developing a great business concept from finances to marketing. She is patient and gives great advice. Marge also brought in Ron Kirshbaum, another SCORE mentor who specialized in Consumer Products, for additional help. This experience has been great!!!
What advice would you give other entrepreneurs?
If you have an idea and don’t know where to start, seek advice from people that have gone where you are going. Utilize the SCORE program. They have all the tools you need and if your mentor doesn’t have the answer, they will help you find the answer.
